As we all know, Apple, the technology Giant has recently released their newest and most advanced device that they have ever made, The iPhone X (“Ten” not “X”). It was as per the norms, the most awaited tech piece that had also acquired the most hype in 2K17. It was, of course worth the wait. Apple has at last entered in to the glass-backed and the wireless charging smartphone sector. But anyway, for those who have watched the Apple keynote will be aware of what happened on stage which cost Apple a lot of money. Yes, I am talking about the fail of the overhyped FaceID on the new iPhone X during its first introduction. And not only that, there was an issue over the new Apple Watch Series 3.
During the launch of Apple iPhone X, when the most awaited answer to the question of how the new iPhone would be unlocked without a home button and TouchID, when the most advanced face recognition technology on any smartphone, FaceID was released, at the first attempt of an Apple representative to unlock the device with FaceID and show a demo of how it works, the phone refuses to unlock and asks for a passcode. The video can be watched below.
This fail to unlock the device using the technology what
Apple calls the first in its class made a very bad impression on all the media
representatives present there and even the thousands of people who were watching
the keynote live online. This incident even led to a break in the shares of
Apple in the Stocks and that cost Apple a lot of Money.
However, Apple came with an explanation soon as people on
the internet started to ‘assume’ what caused the failure of the FaceID. Some explained
that it was probably the sweat or moisture on his face and some claimed that it
was a bug as FaceID was still in development. But Apple’s explanation is as
below:
"People were handling the device for stage demo ahead of time,” says a rep, “and didn’t realize Face ID was trying to authenticate their face. After failing a number of times, because they weren’t Craig, the iPhone did what it was designed to do, which was to require his passcode.” In other words, “Face ID worked as it was designed to.”
And to be honest, it makes more sense and it is the nearest
answer to what would be believed to be true. It maybe was a phone that was kept
for demo and people would have checked it out by looking at it. Every time they
looked at it, even without their knowledge, the iPhone was looking for the
faces which have been registered as the “unlock” ones. And due to repeated
fails to recognize the needed face, the iPhone requested for the Passcode, what
can be called the “Backup Plan”. There is nothing wrong in that, our present phones
with fingerprint or iris scanning security do the same “Backup Plan” thing too.
The problem is solved, the mystery is gone, but what was lost for Apple is
Lost!
The next fail of Apple was regarding the connection issues
on their Apple Watch Series 3. They had noticed that Apple Watch did not have
the popularity and business they thought it would have and they realized that
it no longer turned any heads. That may be the reason that they decided to take
a leap forward and include cellular connectivity on their smartwatch. When
compared to other smartwatches by other companies, including cellular
connectivity is no big deal. But for Apple, who just has interest in removing
things, (ahem, headphone jacks!) it is a big deal and it is the reason that it
too got hyped. But unfortunately, again Apple had an issue with the
connectivity. And the fact is that this issue was admitted by Apple just before
it started shipping. The new Watch appeared to try to connect to unknown WiFi
networks instead of connecting to cellular. Then Apple came with the following
admit statement
“We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular,” an Apple spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “We are investigating a fix for a future software release.”
